Laundry Detergent Adventure

I saw this great post from Superchikk about making your own laundry detergent. I've been wanting to try this for a long time, I just haven't found the right recipe that sounded easy enough for me! This one is so simple. Three ingredients? I guess I could give it a try.

After I made the SIMPLE laundry detergent... I realized I didn't have anything fun to put it in. I could have just thrown it into my (almost)empty detergent box, but that's just too boring. So I got out an empty coffee can instead :)

I got out my trusty chalkboard paint and went to work. Any time I can use chalkboard paint, I do. I'm sure you could use any number of things to cover the can... mod podge some scrapbook paper, or fabric! Add some ribbon... which I may still do to my can :)
I painted the lid with acrylic paint and added ribbon to the edge. A few more coats of chalk paint and it's ready to go!

Ta-Da!

Now add the detergent:

I'll do anything to make laundry a little more fun around here.

  1. How awesome that there is a powdered version of this detergent. Is it safe for HE washers?

I used to be able to get HE Purex for $2.50 with coupons and sales, but the lowest I can find now is $4.00 for only 32 loads! It really adds up fast.

Oh and I love your detergent canister! It's adorable!

  2. Hey! Everything I've read says that it's fine to use in HE washers! Maybe try a little at first and see how it goes?
    And thanks!

  3. Thanks for the shoutout! And I love your canister. My detergent is in a boring plastic container. I might just have to make something cute for it.
